Sylvia Scott is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience in the field of education. Her passion for teaching and supporting learners of all ages has been evident throughout her career, which spans various roles and settings within the educational landscape. Sylvia's journey in education began over 20 years ago, when she started working with children in a child daycare setting as a lead teacher. Her commitment to excellence and dedication to her students were quickly recognized, and she was honored with the prestigious Teacher of the Year award in 2005 for her outstanding contributions to early childhood education.
Continuing her mission to make a positive impact on young minds, Sylvia transitioned to the role of an Early Intervention Specialist with Early Childhood Intervention, where she focused on helping children from birth to age 3 reach their developmental milestones. Her expertise and compassionate approach to supporting families during critical stages of early childhood development earned her respect and admiration from colleagues and families alike. Sylvia's educational journey continued as she expanded her scope to work with students spanning from early childhood through 12th grade. Armed with an Associate of Arts degree from Tyler Junior College (2002), a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Texas (2004), and a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Tyler (2012), Sylvia was well-equipped to make a lasting impact on the lives of students and communities.
Her passion for teaching and nurturing a love for learning extends back to her formative years, where she discovered her calling in an elementary classroom at Arp Elementary. Sylvia's innate desire to help others learn was evident even then, as she eagerly approached her fifth-grade teacher, Debbie Eitel, requesting to teach a lesson. This early experience ignited her lifelong dedication to education and laid the foundation for her future endeavors. Throughout her high school and college years, Sylvia continued to embrace opportunities to support others in their learning journeys. Despite her career path taking a different direction after college, Sylvia's passion for education remained unwavering. In 2007, Sylvia returned to her true calling as a classroom teacher, where she remained until 2021, leaving an indelible mark on students and colleagues across several East Texas school districts.
Despite stepping away from the classroom to prioritize her family, Sylvia's commitment to education persisted. Recognizing that her work in education was far from over, Sylvia, along with her assistant director, embarked on a new chapter by founding "Keeping the People Engaged Actively in Contributing to Education." Through this initiative, Sylvia continues to provide invaluable educational support to families in her community, ensuring that every learner has access to quality education and support.
